Last week, I wrote to the Minister for Water, urging the Government to reconsider its decision to end its £50 contribution to the water bills for households in the South West.
The South West has faced some of the highest water bills in the country, all while experiencing sewage spill after sewage spill, flooding, not to mention a cryptosporidium outbreak in Brixham.
The Government’s annual contribution ensured residents didn’t face unreasonably high bills, and its removal could push some into water poverty – a point I emphasised to the Minister.
Needless to say, I was disappointed by their response. I’ll continue to do all I can to support residents and push South West Water to improve the quality of their services.
